General
How much does it cost to get a painting estimate?
Hometown Painting KC provides completely FREE, no-obligation painting estimates for homeowners across the Kansas City metro. We visit your home, measure the work, talk through colors and finishes, and give you a detailed written quote — usually in about 30 to 45 minutes.
How do I book a painting estimate?
Book your free estimate online in under a minute. Use the scheduler on our contact page to pick a date and time that works for you — no phone tag required. You will see a confirmation on screen right away, and we will arrive at the scheduled time to walk the project.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Hometown Painting KC is fully insured for residential and commercial painting across the Kansas City metro, so your home and our crew are covered on every project. Proof of insurance is available on request before any work begins.
Do you offer color consultation?
Yes. Choosing color is the hardest part for most homeowners, so color consultation is built into our process at no extra charge. We help you narrow down palettes, test sample swatches on your actual walls or siding, and consider lighting before a single drop of finish paint goes on.
Do you do commercial painting?
Yes. While most of our work is residential, Hometown Painting KC also paints commercial spaces across Kansas City — offices, retail storefronts, common areas, and light industrial. We schedule around your business hours, including evenings and weekends, so the work never disrupts your operations.
Pricing
How much does interior painting cost in Kansas City?
Interior painting in Kansas City typically runs $3 to $6 per square foot of floor area, or roughly $400 to $900 per average room including walls, ceiling, and trim. Final cost depends on ceiling height, trim detail, wall condition, and how many colors are involved. Every quote is itemized so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
How much does exterior painting cost in Kansas City?
Exterior house painting in Kansas City typically costs $4,000 to $9,000 for a 2,000 sq ft home, depending on stories, prep work, and paint grade. Premium Sherwin-Williams Emerald or Duration lines cost more upfront but last 10-15 years versus 5-7 for basic paint. Pricing includes pressure wash, scrape, prime, and caulk.
How much does it cost to stain a deck in Kansas City?
Deck staining in Kansas City typically costs $2 to $5 per square foot, or roughly $600 to $1,800 for an average deck, including cleaning, brightening, and a quality sealer. Decks that need old finish stripped or significant prep fall at the higher end. Fences are usually priced per linear foot.
Why do painting quotes vary so much?
Painting quotes vary mostly on prep work and paint quality — the two things you cannot see in a finished wall. A low bid often skips washing, scraping, priming, or caulking, and uses builder-grade paint that fades in a few years. Our written quotes spell out the prep and the exact products so you are comparing the same scope.
Timeline
How long does it take to paint a house interior?
A typical interior repaint in Kansas City takes 2 to 4 days for an average single-family home, depending on square footage, number of colors, and trim detail. A single room is usually a one-day job. We give you a clear day-by-day schedule with your quote so you know exactly what to expect.
How long does exterior painting take?
Exterior painting in Kansas City typically takes 3 to 6 days for an average home — about half of that is prep: washing, scraping, sanding, priming, and caulking. Weather can extend the timeline, since we will not paint over damp surfaces or in poor conditions. Quality prep is what makes the finish last.
What time of year is best for exterior painting in Kansas City?
Late spring through early fall — roughly April to October — is the ideal window for exterior painting in Kansas City. Daytime temperatures consistently above 50°F and low humidity let the paint cure properly. Interior painting can be done year-round since it is unaffected by weather.
Prep Work
What prep work is included in a painting job?
Prep is most of what makes paint last. For interiors we patch, sand, caulk, and prime; for exteriors we pressure wash, scrape loose paint, sand, spot-prime bare wood, and caulk gaps. We move and cover furniture, mask trim and floors, and protect landscaping. None of this is an upcharge — it is the job.
Do I need to move my furniture before painting?
No. Our crew moves and covers your furniture as part of the job. We ask only that you set aside small valuables, breakables, and anything off shelves and walls. Everything else — sofas, beds, dressers — we shift to the center of the room and protect with drop cloths and plastic.
Do you repair drywall and wood before painting?
Yes. Minor drywall patching, nail-hole filling, caulk repair, and spot wood repair are a normal part of our prep and are included in the quote. Larger structural repairs or significant rotted wood are noted during the estimate so there are no surprises once the project starts.
Process & Warranty
What happens during an interior painting project?
Day 1: protect floors and furniture, then patch, sand, and caulk every surface. Middle days: prime where needed and apply finish coats, working room by room. Final day: reinstall hardware, remove masking, clean up fully, and walk the finished job with you. Most KC interiors finish in 2-4 days.
Do you offer a warranty on your painting work?
Yes. Every project comes with a written workmanship warranty — we stand behind our prep and application. If something fails because of how it was applied, we come back and make it right. Warranty length and terms are spelled out clearly in your written quote before work begins.
Do I need to be home while you paint?
No. Many customers give us access and go about their day or week. We are happy to coordinate keys, lockboxes, or alarm codes, and we keep the job site secure and tidy. We do recommend being present for the initial walkthrough and the final inspection so expectations are clear.
Paint & Materials
What paint brands do you use?
We paint with Sherwin-Williams as our standard — Emerald and Duration for exteriors, and their premium interior lines for walls, ceilings, and trim. These hold color, resist fading, and stand up to Kansas City weather and daily wear. If you prefer another quality brand, we are happy to use it.
What is the difference between cheap and premium paint?
Premium paint costs more per gallon but covers in fewer coats, resists fading and stains, and lasts 10-15 years on exteriors versus 5-7 for builder-grade. It also flows better for a smoother finish. Over the life of the paint job, premium paint is almost always the cheaper choice.
Is the paint you use safe for kids and pets?
Yes. For interior work we use low-VOC and zero-VOC paints, which give off far fewer fumes and are safe for homes with children, pets, or anyone sensitive to odors. Most rooms are ready to use the same day, and the strong smell associated with old paint is largely a thing of the past.
What finish or sheen should I choose?
It depends on the surface. Flat or matte hides imperfections and suits ceilings and low-traffic walls; eggshell and satin are durable and washable for living areas; semi-gloss handles trim, doors, kitchens, and baths. We recommend the right sheen for each surface as part of your free estimate.
Service Area
What areas do you serve?
We proudly serve both sides of the KC metro — including but not limited to Jackson, Clay, Platte, and Cass counties on the Missouri side, and Johnson, Wyandotte, and Leavenworth counties on the Kansas side.
Do you paint homes on both the Missouri and Kansas sides of KC?
Yes. Hometown Painting KC works on both sides of the state line. We regularly complete projects in Lee's Summit, Independence, Liberty, and Kansas City MO; and in Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa, Shawnee, and Kansas City KS — same crew, same warranty, same response time on either side.
